Visual Effects Artist - Mid to Senior

We’re seeking a driven artist to help expand the Destiny universe through spectacular visual effects!

The ideal candidate brings a strong set of technical and artistic skills, and a desire to always learn more. Working with your team and with stakeholders, expect to embrace the challenges of modern AAA game development to produce stunning in-game visual effects that support gameplay, cinematics, and environments.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the VFX Lead, Design and other departments to author effect assets that enhance gameplay and storytelling
  • Use proprietary tools, Photoshop and 3D Studio Max to create effects that balance the visual goals of the project with the performance demands of the game engine
  • Help develop and refine Destiny’s visual language through the craft of visual effects
  • Build productive working relationships inside and outside of your team
  • Help develop, document, and present best-practices for VFX team

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of the principles of real time visual effects, as well as art and visual design fundamentals (color theory, etc.)
  • A portfolio or demo reel that demonstrates artistic and technical skills, a firm grasp of timing & scale, and a breadth of real-time visual FX tools (particle FX, shader FX, vertex animation, post-process, animation, decals, lighting, etc.)
  • Previous game industry experience as a Visual FX Artist
  • Proficient in Photoshop, 3D packages, and node based shader editors
  • Willingness to follow direction, collaborate productively with others, estimate work, and work to meet deadlines as necessary
  • Demonstrates an understanding of game-design and player experience as it pertains to visual effects
  • A passion for games

Nice To Have Skills

  • Programming or scripting experience in any language (C++ / Python / HLSL)
  • Animation background
  • 2D concept or storyboard experience
  • Experience with Houdini, Fume FX, Maya fluids tools, or Substance Designer
