Lighting Technical Artist

Bungie is looking for a Technical Artist that is ready to drive our next generation of lighting. Working closely with the Lighting and Sky team, your rendering features, tools and methodologies will provide the power and flexibility to realize the diverse lighting conditions that Destiny is known for. Your expertise will help to establish strong standards across all forms of lighting from sky, local, character and space magic. You’ll be joining a talented, cross discipline team of veteran technical artists to build out the ecosystem that will deliver Bungie’s next highly anticipated game.


  • Establish the lighting standards the artists will use to add dimension and atmosphere to the world
  • Ensure color grading and post effects reinforce the visual style of the game
  • Collaborate with engineers to implement new render features and workflows
  • Create reference content to prove out new workflows and showcase visual improvements
  • Provide documentation to ensure content creators fully realize our systems potential
  • Seek out, develop and promote improved methods of content creation
  • Collaborate with Technical Artists across art disciplines to ensure coherent technology and content
  • Provide guidelines for managing lighting memory and performance across platforms

Required Skills

  • 3+ years professional game development experience
  • Passion for supporting and enabling others
  • Knowledge of DCC Packages (Max, Maya or Houdini preferred)
  • Extensive experience lighting for games or film
  • Solid understanding of game lighting limitations and performance trade offs
  • Strong understanding of PBR shaders and shader systems
  • Programming experience in C#, Python, HLSL or equivalent
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with little supervision
