Senior Editor, Destiny Franchise

Bungie is looking for a creative and collaborative wordsmith to manage editing efforts for the Destiny universe while simultaneously building out a team and pipeline capable of supporting multiple concurrent projects.

You do it all. Equal parts heart and brain, arts and science. Start the morning off in a standup to ensure editing interests are represented in project closing. Head back to your desk and send feedback on names for the gun of a mythohistorical space paladin. Meet up with production to align on a budget proposal for next quarter. Spend an hour sourcing and networking to maintain your rolodex of vendors. Get in a room with other discipline leads to prioritize a shared backlog of engineering asks. Wade through historical data to inform and adapt outsourcing strategies. Throw together some reports to keep stakeholders in the loop on how copyediting efforts are trending. Then maybe touch up the sweaty-toothed ravings of an intergalactic warlord before calling it a day.

But you can't do it all alone. Your role is interdisciplinary and collaborative in the extreme. As the Senior Editor supporting the Destiny Franchise, you have a high level of familiarity with how related and dependent teams function, and leverage that knowledge to drive improvements across all narrative-facing disciplines. As part of the connective tissue spanning these disciplines, you work to enhance the larger team's ability to tell compelling and unforgettable stories in a way that resonates with our players.

Responsibilities

  • Provide content editing and as-needed copyediting coverage for all forms of public-facing text
  • Assist narrative leadership in the creation and upkeep of authoritative documentation in the form of lore bibles, style guides, glossaries, etc., as well as document-control best practices
  • Ensure franchise content across all in-game and non-game channels adheres to the established voice of the Destiny universe
  • Lay out a vision and strategy for franchise editing at Bungie and collaborate with other disciplines to establish healthy process and workflows across interdependent pipelines
  • Work with narrative production to forecast editing and copyediting coverage needs across projects
  • Leverage a suite of tools to manage work, track metrics, and generate reports
  • Provide content and copyediting craft mentorship for co-workers and vendors
  • Build, maintain, and evaluate a rolodex of copyediting vendors
  • Assist production in driving financials for editing, including forecasting, tracking, optimization, etc
  • Articulate and prioritize tooling asks to inform engineering efforts
  • Advocate for the editing and narrative teams

Required Skills

  • Experience building and managing an editing or copyediting team
  • Ability to deliver AAA quality content under tight deadlines
  • Mastery of the English language—composition, grammar, style, etc
  • Excellent communication skills and high emotional intelligence
  • High attention to detail
  • Commitment to iterative improvement

Nice To Have Skills

  • B.A. in English, Creative Writing, Communications, or a related field
  • Experience managing or working with external vendors
  • Proven ability to collaborate in highly interdisciplinary environments
  • Interest and knowledge of games
