Marathon Senior Economy Designer

Bungie is seeking a highly technical, creative, and team-oriented Senior Economy Designer to join Marathon’s Loot and Economy team. Our team’s mission is to deliver engaging and rewarding gameplay loops for players through designing meaningful player progression, decision-making, and risk-reward dynamics. In the extraction genre, this involves crafting economy systems based on need that motivate exploration and combat, drive long-term engagement, and foster excitement through tension and uncertainty.
As a Senior Economy designer, you will be responsible for designing a robust suite of loot items and resources, balancing their distribution, and building a consistent and clear player economy for Marathon. You will drive design alignment and collaboration across creative disciplines. You will ensure a holistic experience for features in relation player achievements and progression, personalization, seasonal content, narrative, UI/UX, encounter design, and technical realities. You'll be an advocate for continuous iteration, ensuring that your designs evolve to meet the highest standards of gameplay excellence.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaboratively plan, design, and evaluate compelling Loot and Economy features
- Implementing and tuning economy content
- Creating technical designs for managing and verifying economic systems for a live service game
- Support the work of cross-discipline teams to understand and execute on what is best for the game
- Review the content of partner teams and skillfully work with them to revise and ensure consistent rewarding experiences
- Maintain Marathon IP quality, consistency, along with sandbox design principles while implementing economy content
- Ownership of features and development of design decisions with partner teams
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Previous experience as an Economy Designer for a large-scale live-service game
- Experience designing, documenting, and building Loot & Economy systems
- Modeling and simulating economies to achieve design intent
- Developing and using player analytics to measure the health of economies
- Proficiency in technical scripting to create content directly in our editing tools
- Intuitive understanding of what engages players and what brings them value and excitement in a complicated challenge space
- Excitement for collaboration with designers, artists, programmers, audio professionals, quality assurance and producers to achieve a common goal, no matter where they are
- Ability to creatively align with the team and then take initiative locally and externally
- Social intelligence, great interpersonal skills, and empathy for creative teams
- Ability to handle ambiguity, including giving and handling feedback despite that ambiguity
NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS
- Experience designing loot and economy systems in an extraction genre
- Experience hiring, training, and managing other Designers
