Marathon Senior Social Designer

Bungie is seeking a highly technical, creative, and team-oriented Senior Social Designer to join the Marathon Team. Our team is committed to driving innovative solutions to online toxicity and building meaningful social connections between players. We strategically think about ways to help others find their online gaming communities.
As a Senior Social Designer, you will be responsible for owning and directing the conception, implementation, and iteration of social systems for connecting players in Marathon. You'll drive design alignment and collaboration across disciplines, ensuring a holistic experience that fosters positive player interactions. You'll use your experience and expertise to lead initiatives that improve social connections between players to create quality multiplayer game experiences.
An exceptional candidate combines technical proficiency with strategic vision, thrives in a collaborative environment, and has a proven track record of creating successful social systems in games.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaboratively plan, design, and evaluate compelling social features and systems.
- Own the implementation and iteration of social systems that excite and engage players.
- Perform scripting and tool work to create robust social features.
- Design and create sustainable social systems with long-term player engagement in mind.
- Design creative additions and improvements for existing social systems and events.
- Tune gameplay values creating meaningful social interactions and a satisfying community experience.
- Review the content of partner teams and work with them to ensure consistent social experiences.
- Work closely with design leadership to establish best practices for social design
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Professional experience as a systems designer with focus on social features.
- Experience working with game development software and tools.
- Experience building and growing communities and social systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience owning features, aligning with multiple stakeholders, or leading small teams.
- Desire to work as part of a large team and ability to take feedback and direction appropriately.
- Extensive experience playing multiplayer online shooters.
- Understanding of what creates positive social engagement and mitigates toxic behavior.
- Experience being in an online community as a player (guild, clan, etc).
NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS
- Technical experience writing text-based scripts to manage game systems (scripting in a Lua, Python, or similar language).
- Multiple shipped game systems within the console space.
- Experience working on games as a service/live content.
- Experience with first person shooters/extraction/competitive PVP games.
- Experience training and mentoring other designers.
- Experience with developing and using analytics to measure social engagement and community health.
